Have Fun at Ponca State Park! Monday, June 26 9:00 am-11:00 am Introduction to Archery and Shotguns — Introductory courses on archery and shotguns will be offered at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. All equipment will be provided. Archery participants must be 5 years old or older and shot-gun participants must be 12 years old or older. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1/6 arrows for archery; $7/box of shells for shotguns. 1:00 pm Cloud Catchers — What happens to water when is disappears? Learn about cloud formation and create your own cloud window to better identify clouds. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $1/craft. 3:00 pm Outdoor Survivor — Learn how to survive the outdoors (just in case). This class will teach the skills related to providing food, water, and shelter in the outdoors. Meet at the West Shelter House. Free. Tuesday, June 27 9:00 am-11:00 am Introduction to Pellet Rifles — Join us for an introductory course on pellet rifles. Participants must be 8 years of age or older to participate. All equipment is provided. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1/4 clips. 2:00 pm Do Plants Breathe? — Discover the truth to this question in an experiment while growing your knowledge of plants and how they work. Meet at East Shelter House. Free. Wednesday, June 28 9:00 am-11:00 am Introduction to Archery and Beginning Muzzle-loading— Introductory courses on archery and muzzle-loading will be offered at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. All equipment will be provided. Archery participants must be 5 years old or older, and muzzleloader participants must be 12 years old or older. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1/6 arrows for archery; $1/2 shots for muzzleloader. 1:00 pm Teeth, Skulls and Beaks — Find out what different types of teeth, skulls, and beaks are used for and what critters they belong to in a hands-on setting. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $1/craft. 3:00 pm Beginner’s Fishing Clinic — Catch some fishing tips on fish ID, casting, safety concerns and more with hands-on demonstrations. Test your new skills at the pond afterwards. Bait and equipment provided. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free. Thursday, June 29 9:00 am-11:00 am Introduction to Pellet Rifles and .22 Rifles — Introductory courses on pellet rifles and .22 rifles will be offered at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. All equipment will be provided. Pellet rifle participants must be 8 years old and .22 participants must be 10 years old or older. All equipment is provided. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1/4 clips for pellet rifles; $3/10 rounds for .22 Rifles. 1:00 pm Amphibians — We’ll go out looking for salamanders and frogs under logs and in swampy areas. Dress to get muddy. We’ll also discuss current challenges for these unique creatures. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free. 3:00 pm Fickle Felines — Mountain lions and bobcats are elusive cats in Nebraska. Come and learn where these animals live, eat and travel. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free. Friday, June 30 9:00 am-11:00 am Introduction to Archery — Introductory courses on archery are being offered in the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. All equipment is provided. Archery participants must be 5 years old. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost $1/6 arrows for archery. 1:00 pm Feeding Frenzy — Have you ever wondered how a frog eats or how a snake can swallow a mouse larger than its head? Join a naturalist as we feed the educational animals in the Resource and Education Center. Be prepared to touch worms and crickets. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Free. 3:00 pm Soil Sampler — Ever wonder how plants are able to grow in the desert, swamps and mountains? Find out why and learn about different types of soil. Participants will experiment with four soil types and grow beans in their mini soil cup. Meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $1 per soil cup.
