Optional Orientation Q&A Session: Monday, August 7, at the Wiggins Fire Station (701 Central, Wiggins CO 80654) from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. This class is highly encouraged for students with little or no hands-on experience with firearms. Mandatory Field Day: Saturday, August 19, from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm (meet at Wiggins Fire Station before 8:00 am). 1. Please pay the $10 class fee at the door. 2. Complete the home study program. This takes a while, so be sure to allow enough time to complete the course before class on August 19. Students must bring the certificate of completion from the Internet course to class. Also print and bring to class the Student Consent Form (see below). 3. All students must attend the all-day Saturday class in Wiggins on Saturday, August 19. This is a "field day" where students get to shoot live firearms and go over some of the basics once again. We will be outdoors for the entire morning, so plan accordingly. In the afternoon we will be back in the classroom to eat lunch and then take the test. For this class each student must: Meet at the Wiggins Fire Station by 8:00 am; Bring in the required completion paperwork for the chosen online course; Dress appropriately for the weather, which includes close toed shoes for hiking; Bring water and snacks for the morning; Bring a sack lunch. Note: eye and ear protection will be provided at the shooting stations, but you may bring your own safety glasses and ear muffs if desired. All firearms, ammunition and archery equipment will be provided by the instructors. We have no minimum age. However, age 8 is about the minimum age that can successfully understand what is going on with the reading and the test. The test is multiple choice. We usually break the class out and read the test to the younger students. Class size is limited, so you must register! Once we have received your registration we will call or email you with a confirmation. There are three options available for taking the online portion of the course. There is a fee for all three: hunteredcourse.com ($13.00), the hunter-ed.com course ($28.50), and the huntercourse.com course ($29.00). For further information read “Requirements” below. If you wish, you may view a YouTube video featuring our Field Day. Please visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJcsmi8fQCU&t=6s. The video is a recruiting tool for new instructors.
